In a bold bid to help pay off his student loans as he enters an ever-chaotic job market, business major Alex Benda is selling ad space on his commencement cap.
“It’s scary to think I’m about to go out into this economy and try to find a job and have all this debt I’ll have to start paying,” Benda, 22, told the Detroit Free Press. “I started thinking, ‘Do I have anything available I could sell?’ ”
The University of Michigan-Flint student is offering 100 1-inch by 1-inch ads on the surface of his 10-inch-square cap for $300 apiece, which, if he’s successful in selling them, will take care of his $30k in debt.
As of January 23, Benda has raised $3,200 on his GoGetFunding.com page.
“I love ‘thinking outside of the box’ to solve everyday problems,” he writes on the site. “It is this approach that gave me the idea to sell 1×1 inch squares on top of my graduation cap to pay for my student loans. While walking across stage to accept my hard earned diploma, I will have the attention of thousands of spectators.”
