There’s nothing more American than generating profits by appealing to our patriotism. We Are We The People is a line of made in the USA t-shirts, baseball caps and visors emblazoned with the We Are We The People slogan, an image of the Liberty Bell, and a non-partisan plea to vote in 2012. The seller tries to seal the deal by including a free pocket Constitution (just pay extra shipping, of course) and donating an unspecified portion of the proceeds to the Wounded Warrior project. Strange they don’t tell you what percentage goes to this worthy charity.
Please excuse me if I sound a little cynical, but I’m not aware of any As Seen on TV direct marketing campaign that was created for any motive other than profit. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. Capitalism is the engine of American prosperity. But in an election year, one wonders if voters will spend their money on generic patriotic wearables rather than donating directly to the candidate or party of their choice.
