After the amazing success of ShamWow and Slap Chop, pitchmen and filmmakerVince Offer suffered a setback after his February 2009 arrest in Florida for an altercation with a prostitute. Although he’s since made parody commercials like this 2010 spot for Eminem’s Recovery CD, we’ve been waiting over three years for a new As Seen on TV product and commercial from Vince.
Now he’s back with the Schticky, a reusable lint roller and general picker-upper that comes in multiple sizes. Since Vince is the master of schtick, this is a sublimely appropriate product name. In addition to sight gags and double entendres, Vince has added a Grouchoesque creeping crouch to his short-form repertoire. We see the Schticky pick up lint, pet hair, breakfast cereal, cat litter and pennies in this new spot, but it begs the question: Can the Schticky pick up hookers? Here’s where to order.
Last summer, we witnessed the unexpected and inexplicable success of Fushigi, a clear acrylic ball which made you look like a dork while pretending to juggle. This summer, Sticky Balls is vying to be the season’s As Seen on TV toy sensation. No matter how many hi-tech gadgets surround us, humans are still fascinated by magnets. Sticky Balls offers over 200 tiny, shiny attracting and repelling spheres that you can arrange in countless configurations.
Combine the fun of magnets with a mildly dirty joke, and you’ve got a sure recipe for success. Following in the esteemed tradition of Vince Shlomi’s “You’re going to love my nuts,” an anonymous actor in the Sticky Balls commercial makes sure you grokked the double meaning by declaring “My coworkers love playing with my Sticky Balls.”
Your Savvy Shopper offers this advice— it’s OK to play with your own Sticky Balls, but ask first before you play with those of friends or coworkers. Get your Sticky Balls here.
Because we always want to supply the latest As Seen on TV news, we feel obligated to tell you that Vince Offer, pitchman of ShamWow and Slap Chop fame, is filming a sequel to 1999′s Underground Comedy Movie. Here’s the trailer, and it’s even more offensive, disgusting and juvenile than the original. This video is not only unsafe for work, it’s inappropriate for anyone, anytime. In a sad comment on her life and career, Lindsay Lohan is involved. Watch if you must, but you have been warned.
A colleague sent me a link to the above chart, the most unique infographic I’ve seen, and I’ve eyeballed a lot of charts. Back in my agency days, I was required to view thousands of unnecessary PowerPoint presentations daily (straining to stay awake while pretending to pay rapt attention).
I’m used to seeing colorful charts displaying market share, sales projections or demographics. Never have I seen a pie chart illustrating the components of a pitchman’s legacy. Until today. Interesting idea, but I have a few issues with the underlying data.
Concerning the 2009 hooker beat-down and arrest, I find Vince’s behavior as appalling as the next person. Or I should say, the next person I can find who actually knows about it. Many people don’t watch much commercial TV, and among those that do, only a few pay close attention to ads. Over half my friends and relatives don’t recognize the name of Billy Mays, much less Vince Offer. I don’t think that many potential customers are aware of Vince’s ugly incident, and the more time passes, the less it will matter to his bottom line. No way it should be a Pac Man-shaped piece of this pie.
Vince Offer Shlomi is young enough to pitch for decades if he chooses. And he’s a reluctant pitchman who’d rather be a film director. His first As Seen on TV product was his own movie, back in 1999. As of this writing (May 2010), he’s marketed two other DRTV products, and ShamWow and Slap Chop were both very successful. He’s got new product in the pipeline, and a new Vince pitch would stand in stark contrast to the mostly boring short form spots being produced today.
In or out of infomercials, Vince can still produce pie-worthy slivers of publicity. Don’t write his obit just yet.
Although Vince Offer Shlomi hasn’t released a new As Seen on TV product since his infamous altercation in 2009, that doesn’t mean he’s kept a low profile. No, Vince has been attending celebrity galas and flashing that special “Vince from ShamWow” smile at every camera in the vicinity. I don’t know Courtney Bingham. Is she his girlfriend? Anyway, just visit the website of event photographer Patrick McMullan and you can download these photos of Vince on the town for $10 a pop. Better hurry and take advantage of this offer, because he can’t do this all day.
Your Savvy Shopper always keeps an ear to the ground. I’ve recently heard rumors that Vince Shlomi, AKA Vince Offer, AKA Vince from ShamWow and Slap Chop, AKA Square One Entertainment, is negotiating behind-the-scenes with DRTV companies to assist him in marketing a brand-new product. I don’t have any details regarding the product or when it will launch, but I’ll keep you posted as we learn more. Over a year has elapsed since Vince’s altercation with a hooker in Miami, Florida. Since Shlomi’s media profile is not nearly that of a misbehaving celebrity like Tiger Woods, I’d be surprised if many TV viewers are aware of this mutual assault and near-arrest. It’s not expected to affect the public’s acceptance of a new pitch from this unconventional yet very successful pitchman.
Thanks to Vince, you know the Germans always make good stuff. Well, what about the Swedes? We all know about Volvos, Abba and Ikea, but did you know the Swedish company Bona has been making floor care products since 1919? The Bona Mop is an innovative mop for hardwood and other hard surface floors. It sprays a cleaning solution from a built-in container and actually cleans floors instead of just pushing around the dust. Our nearly 100-year-old home has hardwood floors throughout, and believe me, there’s a lot of dust to push around.
According to celebrity website TMZ.com, the Slap Chop Rap Remix that’s been around for awhile has been reworked into an actual TV spot that just hit the airwaves. If you see the spot on the tube, let us know. Can this revive the Slap Chop’s saggy sales?
In this video from TMZ.com, Vince Offer Shlomi declares, “No more hookers. I gave up.” The filmmaker and purveyor of ShamWow and Slap Chop was involved in a little, how should i put it, “scuffle” a few months back. You probably never heard about it. The heckler in the video is annoying and unfunny and he makes Vince seem sedate.
