Even though sitting too much is bad for our health, we’re spending more and more of our time in a non-upright position. Adam Jay, pitchman for the infamous Aspray, is back with the Pocket Chair, an improbably small chair that claims to comfortably hold up to 250 pounds. The Pocket Chair is very small, but you’d need a pretty big pocket to stow it there. It’s hard to determine if it’s comfortable by watching the video, so we’d love to hear from those who have parked their bottom on its tiny seating surface. Forget the heart attack risk! The company behind the iRenew bracelet has made millions in the past year convincing an all-too-receptive public that a cheap wristband has the potential to increase the wearer’s balance, strength and endurance. iRenew calls it Selective Frequency Resonance (SFR), but offers no coherent explanation of how it performs its claimed energy balancing magic. Haters have complained that demonstrations of effectiveness are faked.
How does iRenew respond? They’re doubling down by hiring a big name NBA player, Boston Celtic’s point guard Rajon Rondo, to promote their new 2011 model, the iRenew Sport. This new sporty model comes in three colors, and is styled to resemble the wrist bracelets worn by hospital patients and concert goers. From now until December 20th, over 60,000 products can be purchased at Walmart.com and either shipped directly to your home or the nearest Walmart store for free. If the product is marked “Free shipping to home” it will be delivered to your door 3 to 5 business days after your order is processed. If it is marked “Site to Store” Walmart sends you an email when your order is ready for pickup, usually 7 to 10 business days after order processing. Return shipping is also free, or you can return online orders to a local Walmart store. According to the company, this special free shipping offer will save Walmart customers approximately $25 million this holiday season.

The Man Without a Team
If you’ve been watching the Yankees in the post-season baseball playoffs, it’s likely you’ve seen this spot for the officially licensed Derek Jeter New York Team Captain Coin. Look at the images in the infomercial and on the commemorative coin. Listen to the audio and read all the text on the official website. What’s missing is any reference to the team Derek Jeter so ably captains. No Yankees logo on his uniform. No visual or audio reference to the Yankees anywhere on the product or in the offer. This is still a cool collectible for Derek Jeter fans. I just wanted to highlight the complexities involved in sport licensing. Licensing a player’s name and likeness does not extend to his or her team. That obviously costs extra.
