The sun is finally shining today here in Minnesota. It’s been unseasonably cool, cloudy and rainy for the last several days, and everything outdoors is wet and soggy. As you can see in the first photo below, our rain barrel was overflowing and threatening to burst at one of its seams. We recently received a can of Flex Seal to review, and sealing the seam seemed like a good test of this liquid rubber sealant in a spray can. First, I masked off the affected area. Then I followed the directions on the can, shaking vigorously for about a minute before holding the can about a foot away and applying several thin coats in a sweeping motion. Very fast and easy to apply. I let it dry before removing the masking to reveal a neat and clean repair that will hopefully last a long time. Flex Seal is advertised as useful for patching roofs, foundations and gutters, as well as sealing flashing around skylights, vents and chimneys. The name, which is pronounced “You Glue.” It sounds good when you say it, but shoved together into one word, someone who hasn’t seen the commercial might think it’s pronounced “Ugg Glue.”
I’ve seen quite enough creative capitalization in product names, thank you. If you really need to capitalize the second letter of the name, don’t capitalize the first letter too. Follow Apple’s lead (iMac, iPod, iPhone, iPad) and make it uGlu instead. Capitalizing the first two letters is just hard to read.
Why is the spokesperson wearing a headset? That’s Vince from ShamWow’s shtick. Why try to copy him?
